Top Tier Prime Broker usually represents one of the
largest banks in the world. Your firm would either be put in contact
directly or introduced by a mini-prime. Usually offer access to numerous
electronic trading platforms, sales traders, research, soft dollar
administration, and capital introduction. These firms are able to provide
access to trading in multiple asset classes.
3 Star Prime Broker
2nd Tier Prime Broker, smaller firm, not as well
capitalized at Top Tier. Usually offer similar benefits as 4 star prime
brokers above, but may not provide investors with the security that their
assets are being held custody with one of the majors.
2 Star Prime Broker
3rd Tier Prime Broker, small firm that is virtually
unknown to main street. Usually provides strictly basic execution
services for long/short equity and option traders.
1 Star Prime Broker
Discount brokerage house usually set up to handle
retail clients and hedge funds that have assets below one million.
